Rapper DMX is turning to religion again in a bid to put his criminal past behind him - he has plans to become a Christian TV preacher. The star, real name Earl Simmons, walked free from the Maricopa County Jail in Arizona on Wednesday (13May09) after serving time on charges of drug possession, animal cruelty and theft, stemming from various arrests in 2008. He was originally only due to serve 90 days behind bars, but his stay was extended after he allegedly assaulted a corrections officer during his incarceration, reports AllHipHop.com. Now, the star has vowed to to turn his life around - and is using his faith and the small screen to try and help those in a similar position. He says, “I’m gonna start a TV show called Pain and Perseverance, it’s about how I can reach people that the average person can’t reach because I’m grounded. “I’m going to give my first sermon in the church. That’s going to be incredible for me and hopefully the congregation of that church.” It’s not the first time DMX has turned to religion to fix his problems - in 2003, he turned his back on rap and pursued a preaching career. He briefly semi-retired to study the Bible. Tags: DMXThe Sun newspaper claims the 50-year-old “Thriller” hitmaker was recently diagnosed after doctors spotted signs of cancer on his neck and pre-cancerous cells on his face. Reports suggest the condition is treatable and Jackson will be fit to perform his upcoming comeback concerts in London, which begin in July. The self-proclaimed King of Pop has fought a series of skin conditions and was diagnosed with vitiligo over 20 years ago. The disease affects skin pigmentation and is responsible for the singer’s pale look. A source tells the tabloid, “Michaels test showed spots of skin cancer on his body, and cell which could turn to skin cancer on his face. He was at first very concerned, but says he has been assured by the doctors that they can treat this and he will recover. “Michael is really looking forward to his concerts and is determined to wow his fans at each and every gig. He said he’s insisted that any treatment must fit around the concerts, and the show will go on.” Jackson has been spotted making regular visits to a dermatologist in Beverly Hills, and last month \he showed up at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, which, according to The Sun, has a specialist lab to test for skin cancer. PAUL STANLEY Says New KISS Album Is ‘About Two Weeks’ From Being CompletedPosted by admin in Music NewsKISS guitarist/vocalist Paul Stanley was a guest this morning (Friday, May 15) on NBC Philadelphia to promote his art exhibitions this weekend at Wentworth Gallery in King of Prussia. When asked about a possible KISS tour of the U.S., Stanley replied, “We’re about two weeks from the album being completed — the first album in ten years. [It's] very much a vintage, classic-sounding album, right back to our roots. We are really thrilled with it, and you will be, too. And that will be followed by a classic KISS tour — flying around the stage, blowing stuff up; all the stuff you want to see. When you are paying hard-earned money for a ticket, you should know where that money is going. And when you come to see us, it’s like seeing Superman at the circus.” Watch Stanley’s appearance on NBC Philadelphia below. The California Mid-State Fair has announced that KISS has been signed to perform at the 2009 Fair on Tuesday, July 28. KISS will be part of the California Mid-State Fair’s 2009 Budweiser Concert Series and be performing in the Main Grandstand Arena at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the show will be $67, $52 and $42, and go on sale Thursday, May 21, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. Tickets will be available at the California Mid-State Fair box office, online at www.midstatefair.com, any Vallitix outlet, or charge by phone at 1-800-909-FAIR. In addition, a special phone number has been added to better serve ticket buyers: 866-872-2007. KISS’ upcoming U.S. and Canadian tour will be the world’s first to put fans in charge of where their favorite artist plays. By partnering with Eventful, the leading social media company for events, fans will “Demand” where KISS will perform on their latest trek across the top-voted North American markets beginning this September. No matter where the fans say — from stadiums to cornfields — if there are enough votes, KISS will be there! And in order to keep the competition fair for smaller cities, final site selection will weigh population size versus total votes. Fans across the U.S. and Canada can cast their votes at www.eventful.com/KISS to have their town included on the KISS 2009 North American tour. Fans are able to vote, and check the tally of what cities are in the lead, 24/7 across the web at the previous sites; as well as on KISS’ MySpace and Facebook, Ticketmaster’s KISS page, VH1Classic.com, and many more. In an interview in this week’s Kerrang! magazine, Manson said, “We almost made the mistake of having Wes play guitar but he rejoined LIMP BIZKIT. That move forever eradicated my feelings on his choices in life as an artist.” When asked why he thinks Borland went back to his old band, Manson said: “That is what I find myself asking when I urinate sometimes. He said he would never go back. If the reason is money, then I’d rather roll up a $5 note and shove it up my urethra. I’d rather set my dick on fire than join something that I hated.” Responding to Manson’s comments, Borland told Kerrang! magazine, “I wrote nine songs to be submitted to the Manson record and none of them made it. I was really in hired gun land there, but was sort of being told that I wasn’t. So when I figured that whole thing out, I knew I was never going to get an inch into that band. “I love Manson,” he added. “He’s definitely one of the wildest personalities I’ve ever been around and one of the smartest people I’ve ever met but it’s the Marilyn Manson show over there — LIMP BIZKIT is more of a band.” Tags: Limp Bizkit, Marilyn Manson, Wes BorlandAccording to The Pulse of Radio, JOURNEY has announced a 23-date summer tour kicking off on July 16 at the Moondance Jam in Walker, Minnesota and running through September 4 in Atlantic City, New Jersey and the Borgata Hotel and Casino. The band is now fronted by Arnel Pineda on lead vocals. Guitarist Neal Schon discovered the Filipino frontman on YouTube performing the group’s song “Faithfully” with his own cover band. In addition to Pineda — who sounds eerily like former frontman Steve Perry — JOURNEY now includes Schon, Jonathan Cain on keyboards, Ross Valory on bass, and Deen Castronovo on drums. Jonathan Cain says he and the band are thrilled with how Pineda has clicked musically with the band. “Well, this guy is like right out of a Charles Dickens story,” he says. “I mean, he’s got an amazing tale to tell, and it’s almost hard to believe he survived what he survived, y’know? So you gotta look at that and go, ‘How tough is this guy?’ He’s as tough as they come, and I liked everything about him. (The) first week I spent with him I immediately liked him, and took him to task and told him things I though he needed to work on, certainly. But getting him out of the club was the main deal. We had to just get him to stop singing everybody else’s music, y’know?” JOURNEY tour dates (subject to change): Jul. 16 - Walker, MN - Moondance Jam at Festival Grounds With Andy Samberg hosting and Eminem performing, how do you make the even bigger? How about inviting Kings of Leon? The scruffy haired Nashville family rockers will perform live on MTV for the first time — and play their first-ever U.S. awards show — on May 31, when they take the stage of the the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California as part of the Movie Awards festivities. Nominees for the awards — which you can vote for right now — were announced on Monday. “We’re excited, it should be awesome. I always watch that stuff on TV,” said the band’s lead guitarist, Matthew Followill about the show. MTV News caught up with Matthew and KOL drummer Nathan Followill on the band’s tour bus just moments before they took the stage for a sold-out show in Cincinnati, Ohio on Tuesday night — and Nathan said he’s hoping the Movie Awards gig might help him make his transition to the silver screen. “Hopefully we can break into our acting careers,” he joked. “Maybe an agent or something will come up like, ‘Hey, you look pretty good up there, wanna be in my movie?’ ” The drummer said that if he had to choose what movie he’d like to snag a role in, it would have to be ” ‘Pineapple Express Part 2,’ or something like that.” With their latest album, Only by the Night, selling more than 4 million copies worldwide, the Followills said they’re stoked to finally show American audiences what European fans have known for several years: That they’re one of the best rock bands around. But first cousins Matthew and Nathan — singer Caleb and bassist Jared are Nathan’s brothers — said while they’re not nervous about the Movie Awards gig, they are a bit wary of sharing a stage with Eminem, whom they’ve never met before. “But I’m pretty sure he would write a rap song about us after he met us, so keep our friendship at a distance!” Nathan joked. The boys said they were also psyched to meet Jack Black, Will Ferrell and especially, Nathan said, Liv Tyler. Among the list of presenters for the show are Denzel Washington, Cameron Diaz, Ryan Reynolds, Will Ferrell, Vanessa Hudgens, Leighton Meester, Jonah Hill and Lil Wayne.
